White Sox' Losing Streak Reaches 8 in Historic Homestand Defeat as Blue Jays Complete Sweep

The losses continue to mount for the Chicago White Sox. Their latest, a 3-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, is their eighth in a row and 12th in their last 13 games. The Blue Jays completed a sweep with the victory and won five of the six games in their season series with Chicago.

The Sox' three losses to Toronto followed four consecutive defeats at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles. As a result, the White Sox lost a homestand of seven or more games for the first time in franchise history.

Hitless Wonders

The South Siders, as has become a common occurrence, went hitless with runners in scoring position. They mustered up only four hits in the contest, one of which was a solo homer by Korey Lee in the ninth.

Struggling White Sox starter Chris Flexen battled his command, walking five hitters while allowing four hits and fanning six. The righty managed to hold the Jays to just two runs over his five innings of work.

Bo Bichette drove in the Blue Jays' first run in the third inning with an RBI single. Isiah Kiner-Falefa added two RBIs, one in the fourth and another in the sixth off reliever Justin Anderson. George Springer crossed home on both of Kiner-Falefa's run-scoring singles.

The Pale Hose relief crew of Anderson, Jordan Leasure, Tanner Banks, and Michael Kopech held Toronto to one run on three hits and a walk.

Andrew Vaughn doubled to left field to lead off the second inning and advanced to third on Alek Monoah's wild pitch. Manoah retired Lee and Paul DeJong before exiting the game with an injury. Trevor Richards relieved him and got Dominic Fletcher to line out and end the threat.

The White Sox didn't get a runner into scoring position until DeJong's one-out double in the seventh.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol told Daryl Van Schouwen of the Sun-Times, "Nobody wants to win more than Jerry Reinsdorf does."
