Treats are a huge part of any dog's life. They love them, they want them, they will do anything necessary to get to them. Even if it means making a fool of themselves and throwing a fit to get some!

Recently, one Shih-Tzu had a lot to say when his mom decided to cut off his treat supply. He and his mom may not see eye to eye, but she probably did what was best for him. Even if it hurt:

Frankie the Shih-Tzu is so sassy. Shih-Tzus in general are just very chaotic individuals, and there's something so special about them!

Frankie's age hasn't been stated, but we do know that his mom started posting videos of him at the beginning of the pandemic . People fell in love with him pretty quickly: he's adorable, and more than that, he's one of the sassiest pups on the internet. He's amazing in every way!

During quarantine, Frankie had a lot of time to train, but he also had a lot of time to be his mom's only close friend. As a result, the two are inseparable, and Frankie is accustomed to getting everything he wants. In this video, that included begging for more treats than were good for him , but in past videos, his mom has had to move his bed into the bathroom while she takes a shower. Frankie is the king!

How Many Treats Can Shih-Tzus Have in a Day?

Would it make dogs happy if we just sat there and fed them all the treats we had every day? Sure. Would they be able to live long and happy lives? No, probably not. Frankie's mom was doing what was best for him by denying him extras!

Shih-Tzus typically weigh about 16lbs. when they're full-grown. All treats will have different recommendations, but the general consensus is that a full-grown, moderately active Shih-Tzu needs about 360 calories every single day, and the treats they consume should only be about 10% of that - 36 calories. How many treats you give them will depend on their specific caloric value, but it's usually about 2 "medium" treats per day (regular sized dog biscuits).

If your pup has hit their treat max for the day, you can try giving them other "treats" like:

    1. Celery (great for shredders)
    2. Carrots (good for dogs who like to chew things up into tiny pieces)
    3. Blueberries (higher in natural sugar, but great for tossing and using for training )
    4. A few shreds of cheese (they just love it)

Frankie may not see it, but his mama is just trying to help keep him healthy! How sweet is he?!
