Cynthia Nixon Says “Miranda And Che” Were “Pretty Done” After Co-Star Sara Ramirez’s Exit From ‘And Just Like That’

And Just Like That star Cynthia Nixon recently addressed her co-star Sara Ramirez ‘s exit from the show after their characters broke up in Season 2.

“I think for Miranda, Miranda and Che were really pretty done,” Nixon told Entertainment Weekly . “I think that Miranda and Che had kind of run the gamut of what they were going to be to each other.”

And Just Like That saw Nixon’s character, Miranda Hobbes, begin a passionate affair with nonbinary comedian Che Diaz (Ramirez) in Season 1. Their relationship eventually led Miranda to get a divorce from her longtime partner and the father of her child, Steve, much to the disappointment of Sex and the City fans.

After Che and Miranda broke up in the Season 2 finale, it was announced that Ramirez would not be returning to the show for Season 2. But there’s still hope yet for Ramirez to return down the line.

Nixon surmised that Ramirez could return to the show, but that doesn’t mean Miranda and Che will be rekindling their romance any time soon. “If Sara was on the show, I think it would be more Carrie and Che,” Nixon said.

After news of Ramirez’s exit broke, Variety reported that sources with knowledge of the matter denied that they had been fired. Sources said that Che’s character “had reached a natural conclusion” with the end of their relationship with Miranda.

The co-stars and on-screen couple are still on good terms, however.

“I miss Sara,” Nixon told EW . “I mean, Sara and I are in quite a lot of touch about Palestine and what’s happening. And so we talk quite a bit. And they came to my opening night of my play [ The Seven Year Disappear ], which was really lovely.”

Ramirez’s character was a divisive figure on the show, so much so they addressed the fan backlash multiple times during their tenure on the show.

“I am not the fictional characters I have played, nor am I responsible for the things that are written for them to say,” they wrote on Instagram last August.”I am a human being, an artist, an actor. And we are living in a world that has become increasingly hostile toward anyone who dares to free themselves from the gender binary, or disrupt the mainstream.”

And Just Like That recently began filming Season 3. A premiere date has not been announced.
