It's tomato season! Which means that home gardeners everywhere are adding one of these staples to their gardens. And while tomatoes are popular plants for a lot of reasons including how easy they are to grow, there are a few things that one home gardener says that everyone should be doing to help encourage a bigger and more bountiful harvest from their tomatoes this summer.

Take a look at these three important tips to get an idea on what you should be doing when it comes time to grow your tomatoes.

Here are a few gardening tips for beginners who want a flourishing harvest this summer! Tomatoes are so much fun. This maintenance on my raised vegetable garden was so overdue. #gardeningtipsforbeginners #gardeningharvest #growingtomatoes #gardeninglife

Look out, because @misszdramaqueen is coming in hot with a lot of good suggestions for her followers, which include pinching off "suckers," which are those small offshoots that come up between branches.

You also need to give them a lot of support , because once they start getting larger they will begin to lean until they fall over. And if you've ever seen a tomato plant on its side you know that it's not just a sad sight, but that it can also reduce the number of tomatoes you can get from your plant.

Lastly, the OP recommends trimming off all of those bottom leaves and branches that hang a bit too low to the ground, since they're one of the biggest way that pests and fungus gain access to your plants!

Speaking of tomato trellises, you'll have a lot of good choices when it comes to picking out the perfect ones for your backyard.

    DIY Tomato Trellis

While tomato cages are all the rage when it comes to keeping your plants standing tall and proud, there a few DIY options you may want to consider which will allow you to not only help your tomatoes stand up, but they'll also look good while they're doing it!

First up is this woman's string method . We like this idea because you really only need a few materials to put it together, and none of them are going to break the bank.

Secondly, we like this woman's lean-and-lower idea, which allows you to keep your tomatoes under control while also granting you easier access to the fruits when it comes time to harvest.

Lastly, and perhaps the least expensive method on this list, involves using found materials to make your trellis. You can use sticks, stakes, pretty much anything you have lying around, to create a teepee style stand, which will look right at home in your garden.

Grow Bigger and Better Tomatoes With These Tricks

The OP clearly knows a thing or two about growing tomatoes, which is why we're going to follow her lead and do some of the things she suggested in her video!
