When Honda introduced the 2024 Ridgeline TrailSport Edition, the company clearly emphasized its enhanced off-road capabilities and adventurous spirit. However, as someone who often uses trucks for practical purposes, I decided to see if this new model was all play and no work. With summer around the corner, I put the TrailSport to the test by hauling 1,000 pounds of mulch for my yard and my sister-in-law's flower beds.

The 2024 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport proved itself more than capable of handling the load. Powered by a respectable 3.5-liter V6 engine delivering 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, the Ridgeline displayed an "I think I can" attitude transporting fifty 20-pound bags of mulch. The engine's power was evident as it managed the heavy load with only a hint of strain.
However, the height of the mulch stack meant I couldn't drive at my usual speed for fear of losing the load. Despite this, the Ridgeline's stability and performance were unwavering, showcasing its reliability under pressure. The extra-wide bed was particularly useful, accommodating the pallet of mulch snugly between the wheel wells. The 5-foot depth allowed me to close the tailgate securely, ensuring a safe and stable journey. I was even able to carry four additional bags of topsoil in the bed's underfloor storage compartment, with easy access thanks to the tailgate's ability to swing open.

As someone who appreciates a good adventure but still needs a reliable daily driver, I was pleasantly surprised by the 2024 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport. The off-road-tuned suspension, General Grabber A/T Sport all-terrain tires, and steel underbody protection are clearly designed for rugged trails. Still, they didn't compromise the comfort of my daily commute. The unique spring rates, damper valve tuning, and stabilizer bars provided excellent ride quality and improved articulation off-road, all while maintaining the smooth, comfortable ride I've come to expect from Honda on regular roads. It's a good blend of rugged capability and everyday comfort. I recently tested a similar setup in the 2024 Honda Passport Trailsport , so there was no real need to visit my trusted rock pit for this review, but it is worth noting that the Passport Trailsport has more underbody protection plus recovery hooks, notably missing from the Ridgeline Trailsport.

The 2024 Ridgeline TrailSport also boasts a suite of advanced technologies that enhance the driving experience. Inside, a new 7-inch digital instrument panel and a larger 9-inch color touchscreen are now standard. These upgrades include faster processing for a lag-free experience, unlike the Honda Passport, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, and a simplified navigation system. The Black Edition trim further enhances audio performance, making every journey enjoyable.

The interior of the TrailSport is both comfortable and functional. The new center console features a large integrated armrest with expanded storage options, including a bin that can hold a full-size tablet and a handy tray for items you want easy access to without digging through the center console. Below the infotainment system, there's a tray that can accommodate two large smartphones, complete with a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad to keep one of the phones charged. The TrailSport's cabin stands out with orange ambient lighting and contrast stitching, adding a touch of rugged sophistication.

The 2024 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport is not just about off-road adventures; it's also a capable workhorse. Remember the mulch I hauled for my yard? That heavy load was easily managed, thanks to the unibody Ridgeline's impressive payload capacity of 1,583 pounds and a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds, just shy of its body-on-frame rivals like the Chevy Colorado or Jeep Gladiator. The extra-wide bed, constructed from durable glass fiber-reinforced SMC composite, resists dents and scratches, making it perfect for carrying heavy loads, even when loaded with a forklift. The innovative Dual-Action Tailgate adds versatility, allowing easy access to the bed and the class-exclusive In-Bed Trunk® , making it just as ready for weekend projects as it is for outdoor adventures.

Pricing for the Honda Ridgeline starts at $41,145.00 for the base Sport trim level and tops out at a whopping $47,745.00 for the top-of-the-line Black Edition. Our tester comes in close to the top of the price range at $46,375.00, but with its on- and off-road poise, I'd consider that a respectable trade.
