    10 Saints qualify for state in 13 events to punctuate excellent season

    The finals of the Section 2AA track and field meet took place under an overcast sky with a light rain punctuating the event but despite the conditions, the St. Peter athletes managed to qualify a total of 10 individual athletes for the MSHSL State Championships in 13 events as the boys finished third as a team with the girls finishing fourth.

    The athletes competing in the state meet will be Derek Guth (100m dash, 200m dash, and 4x200m relay), Corbin Herron (110m hurdles, 300m hurdles and 4x200m relay), Ramiro Alcantara Alvarez (4x200m relay), Isai Morales (4x200m relay, Long jump), Luke Banks (discus, shot put), Brock Guth (pole vault), Keira Friedrich (800m run, 1600m run), Ella Dirks (800m run), Lydia Fell (high jump) and Addison Landsom (pole vault).

    The state championships take place over two days with preliminaries taking place Friday, June 7 and the finals taking place Saturday. Both days, events for Class AA will begin at 9 a.m. at St. Michael Albertville H.S.

    Girls highlights Began with Lydia Fell earning section honors with a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a PR time of 16.17, shaving .12 seconds ahead of her previous PR set in the first round. Macey Portner finished fifth in the 200m dash with a PR time of 26.97.

    In the 800m run, Ella Dirks and Keira Friedrich punched their tickets to state with automatic qualifying times of 2:15.77 and 2:16.58 respectively, claiming third and fourth while Robin Hibscher (2:28.45) earned section honors with a sixth-place finish. Friedrich earned her second state qualifier in the 1600m run where she finished second with a state qualifying time of 5:05.43.

    Grace Penner earned all-section honors in the 3200m run with a sixth-place finish thanks to a PR time of 11:53.36. Lydia Fell then earned a trip to state thanks to a second-place finish in the high jump due to a clear of 5'1", an automatically qualifying height.

    In the long jump, Liliana Prunty finished fifth with a leap of 16'0.5, earning all-section honors. Addison Landsom then qualified for state in the pole vault with an automatic qualifying PR clear of 10'1" while Annika Magelee (9'7") and Laura Klatt (9'7") finished sixth and eighth to earn all-section honors.

    For the boys, Derek Guth put his stamp on the Section Championships beginning with a state qualifying time of 11.11 in the 100m dash which finished third in the section. Corbin Herron then cruised to a section title in the 110m hurdles with an automatic qualifying time of 14.47.

    Guth qualified for his second event in the state championship with a second-place finish in the 200m dash after posting a time of 22.56. Herron earned his second event invite to state with an automatic qualifying time of 39.16 in the 300m hurdles, finishing first in the section.

    In the 1600m run, Alexander Bur posted a PR time of 4:33.13 to finish sixth before he earned fifth in the 3200m run with a PR time of 9:56.46. Luke Banks claimed the section title in the discus with a throw of 173'5" with Parker Maloney finishing eighth with a throw of 135'4".

    In the long jump, Isai Morales punched his ticket to state with a PR leap of 20'11.25" which earned him second while also being an automatic qualifier. Brock Guth then earned second in the pole vault with a clear of 12'5".

    Banks earned another trip to state by finishing first in the shot put with a toss of 52'10.50" while Cole Junso finished eighth thanks to a PR toss of 46'6.5".

    The final state bid for St. Peter came in the 4x200m relay race where the team of Ramiro Alcantara Alvarez, Morales, Herron and D. Guth posted an automatic qualifying and season best time of 1:28.11 to claim first.
