    Monticello baseball #4 seed in section

    After finishing the regular season 13-7, the Monticello baseball team was given the No. 4 seed for the Section 5-3A playoffs. They ended on a high note, winning their last two games. On Wednesday, May 22 they won 5-2 against Sauk Rapids-Rice. They beat Anoka 3-0 the next day.

    Tyson Visness and Cale Holthaus both finished 1-for-3 with doubles and an RBI against Sauk Rapids-Rice. Easton Peters, Caden King, Tim Marcus and Visness all scored runs. Carson Deibele (W) struck out five in 6.1 innings. Koen Schlangen got the final two outs in relief.

    Peters was 2-for-3 with two RBIs against the Tornadoes. Nick Anderson (W) struck out nine in complete game gem.

    #4 Monticello hosted #5 St. Francis on Tuesday in the opening round of section play. The winner plays Thursday at 4:30 against the winner of #1 Totino-Grace and #8 Zimmerman.

    Disch medals, Magic win conference

    The Monticello boys’ golf team clinched a conference victory during the last conference meet of the year on Wednesday, May 22 in Princeton. With a new team-low 300, the Magic won the conference over Chisago Lakes by 20 strokes.

    Senior Tommy Disch (70) was the individual medalist. Sophomores Brady McGriff (74) and Carter Lemke tied for second. Senior Lannce Ingalls (82) tied for 17th.

    Monticello 2nd in regular-season finale

    The Monticello girls’ golf team finished second to Becker in the last regular season meet last Wednesday, May 22 at Purple Hawk Country Club. Monticello shot 377, six strokes behind Becker.

    Sophomore Alayna Opatz (85) finished second and sophomore Alex Andrist (91) was fifth. Sophomore Madi Moores (98) was 10th and sophomore Kendall Metso (103) was 14th.

    Girls lacrosse finishes above .500

    The Monticello girls’ lacrosse team split their last two games to finish 7-6 this season. They went 5-2 in conference play, finishing second to Chisago Lakes (4-0). After beating Rocori on Monday, May 20, the Magic lost to section favorite Elk River/Zimmerman 22-5.

    On Wednesday, Monticello played St. Michael-Albertville in the section quarterfinals. They lost 9-6 to STMA earlier in the year, although they were shorthanded against the Knights.

    Monticello softball swept out of sections

    The Monticello softball team went 0-2 during the Section 5-3A Tournament and were eliminated from contention. They lost 7-1 to St. Francis and 5-0 to Becker.

    Sydney Fuller drove in Hannah Storey for Monticello’s only run of the playoffs. They were a combined 8-for-50 (.160) at the plate over both games. McKenna Biegler had a double against the Bulldogs.

    Schyma back to state

    Monticello senior Ryan Schyma advanced to the Boys Tennis State Tournament for the third straight year. Schyma beat Bengston (Becker) to advance to the section championship match, where he won the Section 8AA singles bracket to clinch a berth at state.

    Hayden Miller and Wyatt Hanson lost 2-6, 1-6 against Shaffer/Mahannah (Buffalo) and 4-6, 7-5, 3-6 to Peterson/Brown (Becker) and were eliminated during the sectional finals.
