Maine Coon cats are known for their giant size, but it's still surprising to see how much these cats change from kitten to adult.
On May 28, 2024, TikTok user The Maine Coon Life (@themainecoonlife) shared a video of their cat's "glow-up" and it's seriously impressive. Take a look!
In a quick video showing a before and after photo of a beautiful orange Maine Coon, we see a beautiful cat go from an innocent kitten to a majestic lion really quickly.

The cat featured is a Maine Coon with the tabby orange fur. His name is Ares, and in the first photo, he's sitting on what looks like a picnic table outside. He's young but you can see the typical Maine Coon features like the tuffs of fur on the ears and big paws.
Then, the photo changes to something more current, and the little kitten is no longer little. Now, he's full majestic Maine Coon.
Standing in a window looking outside, Ares has reached full size and is absolutely gorgeous.
His "glow up" has his more serious face, with the gorgeous fluffy fur around his neck and chest that Maine Coons are known for. But since he's a redhead, his fluff also resembles a lion mane.
One commenter joked that Are isn't actually a house cat . He's a lion, and looking at that more current photo, he could call himself a lion, and we won't complain.
How Big Do Maine Coons Get?
We know that Maine Coon cats are big, but how big are they? According to BasePaws , the average female Maine Coon grows to be between 8 and 14 inches long, while males are a little bigger at 10 to 16 inches.
All adult cats weigh more than 10 pounds and they have very fluffy fur too which adds to their size. But when you put their size into perspective compared to an average cat, that's when you realize just how big these beauties are.
"Maine Coon’s average size makes them one of the largest domesticated cat breeds in the world," BasePaws shares. "Most domestic adult cats weigh between 8 and 10 pounds (3.63 and 4.54 kg) while a Maine Coon kitten can weigh up to 5 pounds (2.27 kg) after just 3 months!"
If you have a Maine Coon kitten, it's not easy to predict just how big they're going to be when they're fully grown, BasePaws shares.
"You can compare your kitten’s weight to the recorded weight of other cats to get a rough idea," they explain if you want to have a guestimate for how big your kitten will be when they're an adult. "Holding off on spaying or neutering until your cat’s growth plates have fully grown can increase their final size."
