Dogs often enjoy different water sports. While some stick to swimming, others ride waves in the surf. Some even enjoy spending a relaxing afternoon on a float.

But it's not every day you see a Great Dane gracefully riding a paddleboard. Despite being her first time, this giant pup exuded an incredible calmness. Witness her adventure in this May 28 video.

What a sight! Chloe, the majestic Great Dane (@ detouringdanes ), is having a splendid day on the river. She remains serene as her dad paddles through the water. Adorned in a life vest with hot pink trim and a pretty pink pearl necklace, she looks like a million bucks! Although she may have gone kayaking last summer, her calm demeanor was remarkable, especially considering this was her first time on a paddleboard.

How To Train a Dog to Paddleboard

    1. Select the right size board. Get comfortable with it yourself before introducing your pup.

    2. Bring the board inside. That way, your dog can become familiar with it.

    3. Train your dog to get on and off the board when asked. Using something like the ‘place’ command might help to make this easier.

    4. Practice standing on the board with your dog outside. Once the dog is familiar with standing on the board, it’s essential to train them to stay in front of you, and this can take a few times to teach. When they listen, reward them for their desired behavior with a treat.

    5. Don't be too cautious. Even if your dog can swim , it is essential to have them fitted for an appropriately sized lifejacket.

Isle Paddle Boards also recommends bringing a dry bag to store your keys, phone, sunscreen, plenty of fresh water, and a bowl for hydration when paddle boarding with your dog .

This well-behaved pup impressed pet lovers. Viewer @meredithwitthar responded, “I love this so much, but my Dane would have the whole thing tipped over as she clings to me for dear life, and I’m pulled down with her hundreds of pounds.” It’s probably best to stay on land, then. Viewer @maggiemaethegreatdane remarked, “Awesome! I don’t think mom has enough coordination to stay on that thing, much less with me.” That’s fair! Especially when trying to balance with a dog that is bigger than some humans. Another person responded, “For some reason, Chloe reminds me of Cleopatra on the Nile.” She really does!

The first time my dog saw a paddleboard, she hopped on without hesitation. However, not all dogs are made for water sports. Although this may be an activity you want to share with your pet, it is always best to take it slow and not force them to do something they aren’t comfortable with.
