Former President Trump in a Sunday interview warned of a public “breaking point” if he is sentenced to house arrest or jail time following his conviction in the hush money criminal case in New York.

“I don’t know that the public would stand it, you know? I don’t — I’m not sure the public would stand for it,” Trump said in an interview on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends Weekend,” when asked about the possibility of house arrest or jail time.

“I think it’d be tough for the public to take. You know, at a certain point, there’s a breaking point,” Trump added.

Trump, the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee, was convicted last week on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up a scheme to conceal potentially damaging information from the American public ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Judge Juan Merchan set Trump’s sentencing for July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention, where Trump is set to officially become the party’s nominee. Trump’s legal team has vowed to appeal the conviction.

Trump said in the Fox News interview he is “OK” with jail time, noting his concern is about the public’s reaction.

“I’m OK with it,” Trump said. “I saw one of my lawyers the other day on television saying, oh, no, you don’t want to do that to the pres — I said, don’t, you know, beg for anything. It’s just the way it is.”
