Brittany Mahomes is the latest famous name who has thrown her support behind Caitlin Clark as the fallout surrounding Chennedy Carter's controversial foul on her from Saturday afternoon continues.

The former Iowa college basketball icon has complained of rough treatment following her move to the WNBA amid a tough start to life in the professional game. This came to a head after the Indiana Fever point guard was left sprawling following a cynical push from the Chicago Sky opposition player in their clash on June 1.

The 22-year-old was bodychecked as she waited for an inbound pass in the third quarter of her team's 71-70 victory in Indianapolis. Although the barge was deemed a common foul in real time, the act was since upgraded by the WNBA to a flagrant-1 violation following a review.

Carter was on the receiving end of some heavy criticism from an eclectic mix of sporting figures following the episode. After being called out by Jake Paul , Paige Spiranac and Dave Portnoy , among others, former soccer star Mahomes is the latest to weigh in on the incident.

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes took to social media to issue a pep talk the way of Clark, as she told the youngster to remain resilient. She said: "@caitlinclark22 keep doing your thing!! You're a baller and it's incredible to see what you're doing for the game and women's sports!!"

Reflecting on the controversial foul, Clark previously told ESPN: "Yeah, that’s just not a basketball play. But you know I’ve gotta play through it, that’s what basketball is about at this level. I thought we’ve been really physical, we’ve missed some bunnies around the rim, so hopefully those fall in the fourth.

"It is what it is. I feel like I'm just at the point where you accept it and don't retaliate," she continued, as she opened up. "Just let them hit you, be what it is, don't let it get in your head and know it's coming. I think at this point, I know I'm gonna take a couple hard shots a game, and that's what it is."

Clark added: "I'm trying not to let it bother me, and just stay in the game and stay in what's important. Because usually it's the second person that gets caught if you retaliate or something. I'm just trying to stay in the game and focus on my team and focus on what's important."

Meanwhile, her head coach Christie Sides said: "This league is awesome, it's a physical league. That was a non-basketball play that needed to be called in that moment," before praising the rookie for her performance versus the New York Liberty after the Sky game. She added: "She showed it last night.

"Got up and kept playing. All she did was ask the officials to review it. They didn't want to listen to it. I applaud her for how she handled it last night."
