Sage Cattabriga-Alosa has starred in major ski movies for nearly two decades, but an engaging YouTube series has thrust him back into skiing's limelight, particularly amongst the youth.

Dubbed 'Let's Take a Lap' , Cattabriga-Alosa invites his professional skier friends to session freeride terrain with him at places like Mt. Bachelor, Alta Ski Area, and Jackson Hole.

Check out the newest episode in which Cattabriga-Alosa skis Mt. Bachelor on closing weekend. Keep reading for our Q&A about the success of the series, Bachelor, and more.

    Sage Cattabriga-Alosa 'Let's Take a Lap' Q&A

Hey Sage. Thanks for chatting with us. To start, h ow was your spring season?

"Spring is such a fun time to ski, the snowpack is stacked, conditions are soft and smooth, and the vibe is low key. I had a really fun one this year, as conditions were really good, and we got a bonus snow storm for almost a week in the beginning of May.

There wasn't a ton of new snow in April here in the PNW, so getting in a late season storm was really icing on the cake of the full season. Spring can be just as tricky as any part of the year as far as snow conditions go, if its too cold the snow is icy and unforgiving, or if it is too hot, the snow can get so sticky it constantly tries to throw you over the bars.

I wax practically every morning to avoid that but some days no matter what the wax, its too sticky. This year we had more good days than not and lots of fun corn and even a few pow days."

How were conditions for closing week at Bachelor? They seemed decent in the video.

"Conditions for closing weekend were so nice. It was the perfect combo of snow firming up overnight, but then softening up right on time to ski and remaining fun for the whole day. Mt Bachelor is well known for its skate park like terrain, sculpted by the wind, and it consistently is covered in fun gaps, and lips to jump and wind swells to slash and carve turns on."

What were the highlights of Winter '23/'24 for you? Could be moments you captured in the series, or not...!

"Nailing a solid storm cycle in Utah skiing Snowbird and Alta was a highlight of my season for sure, I got to link up with a bunch of friends as well as some new people that I hadn’t skied with before (see video below). Snow was amazing, vibes were hight, and we had a great couple days.

In addition to that, skiing with TGR in Alaska was total highlight to the season. We went to Girdwood skiing with Chugach Powder Guides and were lucky to nail a window of good weather, and snow. It felt so good to get to push myself in the steep technical terrain of Alaska again and reaffirm the feeling of skiing at my highest level."

Some of your uploads from Alta this season were incredibly entertaining. I think you might have accidentally assembled the greatest collection of modern freeriders. How do those party lap sessions come to be? Is it coordinated? Are they spur of the moment?

"The session at Alta with the super crew was a great example of the organic flow that the "LTAL” episodes embody (video above). On that day I reached out to Andrew Pollard , who wasn't skiing that morning, to ask if there was anyone around who I didn't know who might be fun to link up with.

He mentioned that Colby Stevenson was around, I reached out to Colby via Instagram message, he got back to me and we linked up a couple hours later. It just so happened that he was skiing with a crew of park skiers, like Mac Forehand , etc, and eventually we all grouped up with other FWT pros, as well as local shredders.

It ended up just being a spur of the moment, centered around, you guessed it, yep the joy of skiing!"

Who is a dream guest for the series? Where would you ski? Why?

"The list is so long!! I put more focus into traveling a little bit and getting to link up with more skiers but I haven't whittled down the list much yet!

    Craig Murry and
Tonje Kvivik are a couple of people on the top of the list. Of course linking up with Candide, (we’ve skied together over the years, but not in a while) would be a dream. I would really like to do a trip to Europe and link up with many of the amazing skiers over there."

Why do you think skiers enjoy watching your videos so much?

"I think that what’s compelling about the series, is that it's relatable. I try and keep the episodes at ski areas vs the backcountry.

And while I'm not trying to give exact location info to the runs we ski, if you know the area, and recognize the zones, it makes the viewer connect and relate. I get feedback in the comments from people saying, “ I know that run, (or feature)”, and I can tell that it really connects well with people.

The wild zones that we share in ski movies are beautiful, stunning, and cool looking, but not very relatable to most skiers. I think another aspect is that a lot of what I am trying to capture is the raw and spontaneous experience of skiing with your friends. That feeling of having fun, pushing each other, and seeing where the day leads. In the end that’s what makes a good episode, it's the vibe."

How do you cope with the ski season coming to an end?

"Having such a long spring softens the blow of ski season coming to an end. If I hadn’t got to ski so much in May it would have felt like the season fell a little flat, but with the extra days it really felt like a great, and fulfilling season.

On top of that, mountain biking is such a good sport to keep the fun flowing. Pivoting to biking, (something I’ve only done in the last couple days) keeps the joy train rolling, and offers a great way to stay fit, and strong."
