“I Literally Have To Access My Lawyer’s Office” — Miley Cyrus Talks About Having To Fax Dolly Parton

Even Miley Cyrus has to fax her godmother, Dolly Parton. Dolly famously only communicates via fax (I'm assuming she might still have a landline too?), which is equally as charming as it is challenging for people to get in touch with her, which I guess is kind of the point. I didn’t even know people still owned fax machines, but for a superstar like Dolly, she probably doesn’t want to just be handing her cell phone number (if she has one) out all the time… but you’d think her goddaughter could at least have it. Either way, I find it so endearing and charming that Dolly still does business that way, and I guess as the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? In an interview with W Magazine out today, Miley revealed that yes, she still faxes with Dolly, and in fact, has to go to her lawyer's office to use their fax machine... because no one else faxes anymore (aside from Dolly, obviously). How funny is that? So Dolly and so hilarious to think about Miley going to use her lawyer's fax machine... "No one else faxes. I literally have to access my lawyer’s office, because the lawyer is the only person who can still receive a fax. Dolly wrote to me to say: 'How much do I love you? As much as my heart can hold and as far as my arms can reach.' It gets me choked up. I just love her so much. Last Christmas, she gave me a whole mannequin, done in her proportions and wearing her outfit. It’s so major." Um, I'm gonna need one of those too... And in a separate interview a couple years ago on Late Night with Seth Meyers , Miley also said that if you get a demo from Dolly, it's going to be in the form of a cassette tape. So yeah, if you think the faxing process is extensive, it gets even more complex: “She also made me a demo one time where she talks about being super high tech, but it was all through a cassette. Which then she voice memoed onto a flip phone, which someone then put onto the iPhone, which then got sent to me.” I freaking love everything about that. It’s kind of the same sentiment as sending a “thank you” note, which people really don’t do much these days, either. The whole point is the effort it takes and the care that goes into it, and that means something to people. Of course, all of those character traits are what makes Dolly such a beloved figure, and Miley agrees: “I’ve taken a poll, I think Dolly is the most loved person on the planet, right? She’s been so consistently caring and kind and herself, and again, she didn’t look like the standard female country music artist that was polite and wearing long dresses. She had big hair and big boobs, and she slapped this big mark on the entire world that all of us are just trying to fill her crystalized shoes, which is never gonna happen.” Just a national treasure.
