The Unlikely Film That Inspired Inside Out 2

The director of layout photography on Pixar's upcoming Inside Out 2 has revealed a surprising detail about the film's inspiration, providing unexpected nuance to the world inside Riley's mind.

Speaking with Animation Magazine , Adam Habib shared that the Safdie Brothers Uncut Gems influenced the film's camera work, saying that the shaky cinematography reflects Anxiety settling into Riley.

The in-depth interview in Animation Magazine revealed the unique techniques the technical team undertook, including building static sets in which they would place digital characters.

Anxiety is voiced by Maya Hawke, who leads the pack of new emotions — Ennui, Embarrassment and Envy — in this sequel, which witnesses an adolescent Riley bottle up her old emotions as the new ones let loose.

They may be tackling new emotions in the sequel, but it had to cut a few, including shame, which "was too heavy" .

Early reactions have said that the film "will not disappoint", and is "the best Pixar movie in a decade" .

Inside Out 2 will hit theaters on June 14, and new details have started to trickle out about the film.
