Tomb Raider Animated Series Release Date Announced Alongside New Teaser

Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider series has been a long time coming, and now, after a fairly substantial wait, we finally have a release date for the series.

Netflix officially lifted the lid on Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft yesterday, with a new teaser trailer showing off the animated series for the first time. The teaser, which runs for about 30 seconds, has a quick montage of Lara doing Tomb Raider-y things, like jumping off cliffs, skydiving, catching blades, and diving into tombs.

It definitely seems to take a lot of inspiration from the rebooted Tomb Raider video game series, which started with 2013’s Tomb Raider and was followed up with Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Lara has her signature bow from those games, which she uses to stealthily pick off enemies — though we do see her with quite a few guns in the new trailer, which fits in with Lara Croft’s recent outings, too.

As Netflix says, this actually seems to be a sequel to that rebooted series, as per the description of the video:

“The animated series TOMB RAIDER: THE LEGEND OF LARA CROFT picks up after the events of the highly successful Tomb Raider video game Survivor trilogy (Tomb Raider; Rise of the Tomb Raider; Shadow of the Tomb Raider), and will chart the globetrotting heroine’s next chapter as the iconic adventurer. More than 25 years after her first appearance, Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell) continues to explore ancient mysteries and uncover lost truths across breathtaking and dangerous destinations.”

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is being animated by Powerhouse Animation Studios, the production company behind other Netflix series like Castlevania and its sequel series Castlevania: Nocturne. This Tomb Raider series, though, looks more similar visually to Skull Island, the animated King Kong sequel series to Kong: Skull Island.

The trailer ends with a proper Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft release date: October 10, 2024 .

It will be available exclusively on Netflix worldwide.
