Summer is coming and with it all that oh-so-oppressive heat that makes you want to dunk yourself in the nearest body of water. If you're tired of sweating it out and dreaming of a refreshing dip but don't have the budget for an in-ground pool or want to deal with a plastic one, we have the perfect solution for you—a DIY stock tank pool!

Meet Jeanie Marie , a TikTok creator from Arizona where the sun shows no mercy. She and her partner transformed their backyard into a summer oasis with a simple stock tank pool. Let's dive in and see how she pulled off the project.

DIY 💦 How we made our Stock Tank Pool STEP 1 Pick up an 8ft Stock Tank from @tractorsupply STEP 2 Level your pool site with paver sand. This also gives the pool a nice soft base to sit on. STEP 3 Install the pool pump system. We used an Intex Pool Pump made for above ground pools. 🔗 I have this as well as the other connectors linked in my bio under my Amazon Storefront in the Stock Tank Pool section. We drilled two holes into the side of the pool with a 2 3/4 in circular bit, this way we could connect the inlet and outlet hoses from the pool pump. STEP 4 This part is optional, but we did build a deck around half of the pool so that we had a place to set our towels, drinks, snacks and a space to sit and hang out. Highly recommend a deck. STEP 5 Fill up your new pool with filtered water, sanitize it with 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide (instead of chlorine), run the pump for 24 hours. STEP 6 Enjoy your new Stock Tank Pool 👙😎 Honestly, this project is pretty simple and a great way to add some fun your backyard this summer. First things first, Jeanie Marie and her partner (and you. if you are going to want to replicate this project) needed a stock tank. They headed over to Tractor Supply and picked up an 8-foot tank. If you're lucky enough to own a truck, transporting it will be a breeze. Commentor T NChickenMama also shared the helpful tidbit that 'If you're a preferred neighbor member you can get a free trailer rental from TSC.'

Once home, the couple prepared the site by leveling it with paver sand . This gave the pool a soft base to sit on. Placing the pool on the sand was easy—stock tanks aren't as heavy as they look and can be moved by just two people.

Now came the technical part—installing the pool pump system . They decided to go with an Intex pool pump made for above-ground pools. Along with the pump, they needed connectors, which you can conveniently find on Amazon storefront under the stock tank pool section.

To get the pump working, they drilled two holes in the side of the pool using a two and three-quarter hole saw bit. One hole was placed toward the top and the other toward the bottom for the inlet and outlet hoses. This might sound complicated, but Jeanie assures us it’s a breeze with the right tools.

For those looking to add a touch of luxury and practicality, Jeanie Marie’s partner built a deck around half of the pool. This made it easy to set down towels, drinks, and snacks, making the pool area even more enjoyable.

    How Do You Sanitize Everything?

Finally, they filled the pool with filtered water and sanitized it with 35% hydrogen peroxide. Some people might want to use regular chemicals, but that can actually react with the metal of the pool itself so it isn't exactly recommended. They ran the pool pump for 24 hours to ensure everything was clean and ready for use.

And there you have it—a fun little project that turns a regular backyard into a refreshing summer getaway. Plus, it’s a great way to beat the heat without breaking the bank. Are you going to try this yourself? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
