Thredbo Teams Up with Scotty James to Foster Next Generation of Aussie Rippers

Thredbo Resort, beloved hub of snowboarding in Australia and favorite spot for visiting pros from the Northern Hemisphere, has just announced a new partnership with Scotty James . As an ambassador for Thredbo , Scotty will build on years spent riding and competing at the resort and help to foster the next generation of Aussie riders.

Since he was a teenager, Scotty has been a rider pushing progression in the halfpipe and he has a collection of awards and medals to show for it, as well as a mind-boggling NBD from the past season. Over the past few years, while still raising the bar in the pipe the accomplished Aussie has been increasing his contributions to the industry off his board ( becoming an investor in X Games , as an example).

The partnership with Thredbo is Scotty's latest endeavor and aims to provide facilities to nurture the next generation of Australian snowboarders (as well as visiting pros, who will definitely be drawn to the resort). For this season, Thredbo will debut the country's first-and-only 22-foot halfpipe (especially exciting in a time when full-size halfpipes are harder and harder to come by) as well as a brand new 13-foot minipipe.

The superpipe will be made with another Australian legend, renowned park builder and snow craftsman Charles Beckinsale. Beckinsale and Thredbo worked together last season to bring The Stomping Grounds to the mountain (notably the place where Charles ran the park in the early part of his career) and the addition of the pipe will grow this year's edition of The Stomping Grounds in the Southern Hemisphere, which will also include a 65-foot jump.

As for the minipipe, Scotty donated the pipe cutter and MOOKi's Minipipe will be an oasis for all ages in the Cruiser area at Thredbo. Last month while at Ski Area Management Magazine's Cutter's Camp in Oregon, Beckinsale spoke about the value of minipipes to bring together snowboarders of all ages and abilities levels; for pro riders, up-and-comers, casual weekenders, and families, the minipipe is accessible, fun, and a conduit of community.

Thredbo opens for the 2024 season on Saturday, July 8th.
