The Mardi Gras Society of Southwest Georgia has donated funds raised to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Decatur County. “The generous donation from the Mardi Gras Society of Southwest Georgia will cover nearly 1,000 books that will go directly to homes in Decatur County providing parents and children with precious memory-making and literacy-building opportunities,” says Imagination Library representative, Patty Hamilton.

In 2022, with support from private donors, Memorial Hospital and Manor, and Decatur County Family Connection, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Decatur County was launched. All Decatur County residents can register their children to receive up to 60 books; one each month until his/her 5th birthday.  Over the last two years, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Decatur County has served over 860 children and gifted nearly 10,000 books ! Hamilton says, “It is our hope to reach all the children of Decatur County.” To find out more about the program you can visit imaginationlibrary.com.

The Mardi Gras Society will be hosting more fundraising events such as a Gumbo and Brunswick stew competition in Bainbridge this November called, ‘Rouxlin on the River.’ For registration and rules, visit mgsswg.com and watch for updates on both Facebook and Instagram at Mardi Gras Society of SWGA.

President of the MGSSWG, Jennifer Cannon, explains, “The Mardi Gras Society of Southwest Georgia Corporation is an all-ladies, non-profit organization whose purpose is to support charities of Southwest Georgia. The charities are approved by committees year-round and are supported by financial and in-kind assistance. We put the “FUN” in FUNdraising by creating Mardi Gras events for our community. We encourage sisterhood, celebrate life and good times, and look forward to supporting those who need it most!”
