While saving money is always a number one priority for us when it comes to purchasing home decor, what we don't want to do is make our homes appear cheap in the process. While obviously you have to sacrifice some quality when you're trying to save a few extra dollars, you can still maintain a trendy aesthetic while remaining in your budget.

This interior designer knows a thing or two about "cheap" looking homes and he wants to make sure we avoid these specific products when trying to style our homes. They might be popular, but they don't look luxurious. So if luxury is the vibe you're going for, here is a list of pieces to put back on the shelf.

Interior designer and TikTok creator Zachary Luke ( @zacharylukedesigns ) is based in Charlotte, North Carolina and so far his most viral series to date is naming items in a home that make it look "cheap AF."

Now, obviously Zachary is going off of a luxurious aesthetic that only a specific group of homeowners will be interested in maintaining so if this vibe isn't for you, take this with a grain of salt!ย Zachary is a "modern transitional" interior designer, meaning he focuses on a specific aesthetic for his clients.ย His goal is to help homeowners figure out the difference between trendy cheap pieces and timeless classics. If this isn't your look, he's not the guy for you!

Avoid These 3 Outdated Items If You Want a Classy Home

These are some items at the top of Zachary's top interior design "Don't" list.

    1. Subway tile backsplash

While obviously the 3 inch by 6 inch subway tile is a super popular look, Zachary is begging his followers to stop opting for this overused aesthetic. He says there are so many other options, for example a straight-lined porcelain tile.

    2. Decorative ceiling fans and light fixtures

These will definitely outdate a room, no questions asked. Ornate and intricate ceiling fans or light fixtures are a big no for anyone trying to curate a sleek aesthetic in their home. Opt for simple designs and basic colors.

    3. Open showers

This one is more of a functional issue, but open showers are not going to keep in your steam! They might look nice but at the end of the day an enclosed shower will be your best option.
