Newton County man called dispatch after shooting wife then killed himself, authorities say

REDINGS MILL, Mo. — Southwest Missouri authorities have released more information on what is now confirmed as a murder-suicide from over the weekend.

In a release Monday, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said that on Saturday night , their central dispatch received a call from a man now identified as William Clanton, 62, stating he had shot his wife multiple times and that she was dead. He then said he would shoot himself.

Authorities arrived at the Redings Mill home and made entry. They found Vicki Clanton, 65, dead with multiple gunshot wounds, and also found her husband dead from a single gunshot.

Detectives at the scene confirmed William shot and killed Vicki shortly before turning the gun on himself.
