HENRY COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR ) – The Henry County Sheriff reports that a North Carolina man wanted for crimes in two states has been arrested after a multi-state high-speed chase that ended in Henry County.

The sheriff says around 12:24 a.m. on Sunday, 30-year-old Devron Jacqua Dillard of Ruffin NC was allegedly leading North Carolina’s Eden Police Department on a high-speed chase on Highway 87 in a 2005 Ford Explorer. As the pursuit approached the Virginia state line, officers informed deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s office that Dilliard was wanted and allegedly possessed illegal drugs in his vehicle.

Dillard then entered Henry County and was allegedly observed by HCSO deputies driving north on Morehead Ave at speeds exceeding 100 mph. A traffic stop was attempted, but Dillard allegedly refused to comply and continued to flee from deputies at high speeds.

The chase continued toward the intersection of Morehead Avenue and Greensboro Road, where Dillard attempted to turn south onto Greensboro Rd. However, due to the continued risk to public safety from Dillard’s alleged reckless driving, deputies performed a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver or PIT maneuver. This caused Dilliard to lose control of his vehicle and hit a guardrail, ending the vehicle pursuit.

Rather than surrender to law enforcement, Dillard then allegedly broke the window of his vehicle, climbed out, and fled on foot. He was quickly taken into custody by deputies without further incident.

While being arrested, deputies allegedly found cocaine and crack cocaine in his possession.

In Henry County, Dillard has been arrested and charged with the following:

    • Felony Eluding.
    • Manufacturing, selling, giving, distributing, or possessing with intent to manufacture, sell, give, or distribute a controlled substance.
    • Fleeing Law Enforcement Officer.

It was also learned that Dillard had eight outstanding warrants from the Danville Police Department. Eden Police Department will also be issuing charges against Dillard. He was held without bond.
