Summer weather to return with 80s, increasing storm chances
By Joe Fitzwater,

Tonight features partly cloudy skies to start with the chance for a stray shower or two with a warm front sliding to our north. We’ll see skies clear after midnight with mostly clear skies expected and with a very light wind overnight, patchy dense fog is a good bet as temperatures drop into the mid 50s.
Tuesday brings sunshine back into the picture after morning fog dissipates, but with our warm front stalling near the West Virginia/Pennsylvania border, a couple of scattered downpours are likely to pop up. Though severe weather is not expected, these downpours will be working in a more humid air mass, with very localized heavy rainfall possible. A lot of us will stay dry, with high temperatures in the low to mid 80s. We’ll dip back into the low 60s Tuesday night with a few isolated downpours still possible.
Wednesday provides a better risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms, with our stalled frontal boundary still meandering to our north and a cold front approaching to the west. As a result, scattered storms will pop up, especially during the afternoon with locally heavy rainfall possible. Though our atmosphere has limited ‘juice’ for strong thunderstorms, a strong wind gust or two can’t be ruled out as a well, with high temperatures in the upper 70s to right around 80 degrees.
Thursday keeps the risk for a few showers, with a our cold front crossing during the morning hours. The afternoon will feature a northwest wind flow behind the front, which will slowly begin to cool us down. High temperatures on Thursday will once again be in the upper 70s. Showers will be widely scattered by the afternoon, with plenty of dry time expected.
Friday keeps the risk for an isolated shower or two, mainly in our northern counties, as a weak trough and associated low pressure system scoot by to our north. Most of the day will be dry and it’ll be a noticeably cooler day on the way with our northwest flow ushering in cooler temperatures as high temperatures struggle to reach 70 degrees.
Saturday features mostly sunny skies with high pressure nearly overhead but with a light and variable breeze expected, temperatures won’t jump too much, as we remain below average with high temperatures in the low 70s.
Sunday brings back the risk for a few showers, though this risk looks widely scattered at this point, with highs in the mid 70s.
Monday brings the sunshine back into the picture with high pressure in control and we’ll be warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
Looking ahead, in your extended forecast, another front looks to cross as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday, which will provide chances for showers for each of those days. High temperatures for Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the 70s. By Thursday, sunshine will return with high pressure in control and we’ll see highs near 70 degrees.
