Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have to Prepare for Archie and Lilibet to ‘Start Asking Questions’ as They Grow, Expert Says: ‘How Is It I Don’t See My Grandparents?’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles as senior royals in early 2020. Since then, they have been raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet , in Montecito, California, closer to where Meghan grew up. The two have returned to the United Kingdom together only a handful of times, and their young children have hardly spent time with King Charles. Meghan also has a strained relationship with her father, and it’s been reported that he has never met either of his grandchildren.

While Harry and Meghan have had a right to make the decisions they’ve made, one expert says the two will have to prepare for Archie and Lili to eventually ask a lot of questions.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s kids will eventually wonder where their grandparents are

Archie and Lili do have a close relationship with their grandmother, Doria Ragland, who is Meghan’s mother. It’s widely known that Harry lost his mother, Princess Diana, at a young age. But the two children seemingly do not have any relationship with either of their grandfathers. Meghan and Harry do keep in contact with King Charles, so the kids might see him over video chat every now and then, but they hardly see him in person, if ever.

Speaking to The Sun , royal expert Phil Dampier says that it’s “very sad” that Archie and Lili don’t get to see their grandparents (though it could be argued that both grandfathers played a role in that outcome). He also said Harry and Meghan have to prepare for the kids to eventually ask questions.

“When they get a bit older, are they going to start asking questions; ‘How have we got to this situation,’ ‘How is it I don’t see my grandparents,’ ‘How is it I don’t have anything to do with the royal family?”

Dampier did say that it will be “fascinating” to see how Archie and Lili grow, and that time will decide what happens with the royal rift. “So that is the underlying sadness and whether they’re going to one day heal this rift, we don’t know, but at the moment I don’t think there’s much prospect.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle likely won’t return to the UK any time soon

Harry just made a quick trip to the UK in early May for an Invictus Games ceremony, but there weren’t any royal family members in attendance — not even Princess Eugenie, who has previously had a very good relationship with her cousin. Members of Princess Diana’s family did attend, though, which likely helped Harry feel at home. Meghan skipped the event entirely, opting to meet Harry in Nigeria in the following days rather than travel to the UK with him. Meghan has not return to Harry’s home country since Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022.

Harry and Meghan likely won’t return to the UK any time soon given that Harry did not even see his father or brother last time he visited. The two almost certainly won’t attend this year’s Trooping the Colour, but you never know.
