Father’s Day came a couple of weeks early for Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre and his caddie father Dougie.

On Sunday, the younger MacIntyre scored his first-ever PGA Tour win at the RBC Canadian Open held at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ontario, Canada. The victory was made monumentally more special with his dad standing next to the green to savor the moment with him.

The Scottish golfer beat American Ben Griffin by a single stroke. After making the winning putt, Robert immediately looked to his father.

The MacIntyre patriarch had flown in from Scotland just a week prior to fill in as his son’s emergency caddie. He had originally been scheduled for greenskeeping duties at a Scottish course before getting the call from his son.

During his post-tournament interview, the 27-year-old Scotsman was asked why the win was so emotional for him.

“Cause of this,” Robert said while pointing to his dad in tears. “I’m speechless, to be honest. … It’s just everything for me and my family. I’m crying for joy but laughing because I didn’t think it was possible. … I wanted to win this for my dad.”

MacIntyre’s win at the RBC Canadian Open came with a $1.7 million purse, which he vowed to use to pay off his parents’ mortgage.

MacIntyre has been very open about how homesick he’s been since moving stateside to play on the PGA Tour full-time.

There’s clearly no topping Bobby MacIntyre’s early Father’s Day gift.
