Washington County Sheriff investigating Ozaukee County holding cell death

Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the Ozaukee County jail on June 1, according to authorities, who noted Ozaukee County's policy requires an outside agency to investigate.

According to Ozaukee County Sheriff officials at or around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, an inmate at the Ozaukee County Jail was found deceased in a holding cell.

The deceased is identified as a 36-year-old male from Milwaukee.

"We are unable to release his name until his next of kin has been notified," officials said.

The deceased was being held on local charges and an out-of-county warrant, authorities said, noting he had been in custody since May 30, 2024.

"The investigation is active and ongoing," officials added.
