Actor Erich Anderson, whose notable TV roles included portraying the father of Keri Russell’s titular coed on Felicity , died over the weekend in Los Angeles following a battle with cancer. He was 67.

Anderson’s wife, actress Saxon Trainor, confirmed the news on Instagram .

Anderson appeared in nine episodes of Felicity as Dr. Edward Porter, Felicity’s often disapproving dad. On Instagram , Eve Gordon, who played Felicity’s mom, called her late TV husband “so wickedly cynical and joyous at once,” before adding that she saw less of Anderson on the Felicity set after their characters’ Season 2 divorce, “But [I] was always happy when we found each other in L.A. We’d hang out and talk for hours. He was so smart.”

In addition to Felicity , Anderson had recurring roles on Melrose Place (as Courtney Thorne-Smith’s psychiatrist), thirtysomething , The Outer Limits , NYPD Blue , Boomtown , and, more recently, Bosch . He also guest-starred on Star Trek: The Next Generation as Commander Kieran MacDuff in Season 5 episode, “Conundrum.”

On the big screen, his credits included 1984’s Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and 2002’s Unfaithful .

Anderson was also a published author and screenwriter.
