MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A man is facing a drug charge after a traffic stop in McDowell County.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle on Feb. 12 for failing to display a license plate.

Once the vehicle pulled over, K9 Kessy alerted the vehicle for the presence of narcotics.

The passenger, identified as 40-year-old Michael Lee Sexton, was arrested for outstanding warrants.

A search of his person turned up an unknown substance. NC State Crime lab results determined it to be fentanyl.

Sexton was located and arrested on May 22 and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
