    It was a beautiful moment when an elephant finally had its chains removed after 31 years in captivity.

    In a minute-plus video, we meet Joy, an elephant who hasn't been able to have the life she deserves. But she's getting it now. Take a look!

    @planting_peace

    We did it! Her chains are off. This is most likely the first time they have been off completely in 31 years. Even when moving elephants, they use a drag chain or toss it around their neck like in the video. I'm so pumped! Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and followed her story. I still need to get Joy to the other side of the river. There, she will have 300 acres to roam during the day. She will be put in a chain-free ten-acre night enclosure with her new elephant friends at night. -Aaron We still need funds to remove the mass on her side. Feel free to donate on her gunfundme in the bio. You can also donate on PlantingPeace.org or on venmo:plantingpeace333 @tannerwiththe_tism #mandalao #elephants #rescue #plantingpeace #nonprofit

    "Joy's chains are coming off the first time in 31 years," the text on the video.

    A person is sitting on Joy, and he's taking the chains off around her neck, and then someone else takes the chains off around her feet.

    The sweet elephant was patient as the person worked to remove the chains. She swayed her ears and watched closely.

    When the chains are off, she starts walking slowly toward the water. "She's confused," the video explains. "She's wondering what the heck is going on?"

    She's still walking around, now with a little more speed. "She's free!" the text adds.

    "We did it! Her chains are off," the text in the caption reads. "This is most likely the first time they have been off completely in 31 years. Even when moving elephants, they use a drag chain or toss it around their neck like in the video."

    Aaron then thanked the people who made it possible for these chains to be removed. "Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and followed her story. I still need to get Joy to the other side of the river."

    Joy, the Elephant, Was Abandoned

    According to the GoFundMe set up by Aaron, Joy was found tied to a tree. "We found this young elephant abandoned in the woods, just chained to a tree. She was a logging elephant, but her logging harness rubbed a huge mass into her side, which forced her into an early retirement," the GoFundMe explains.

    "So, her owner has abandoned her out in the middle of the woods. She is chained to a tree, stuck out there all day and night by herself. It's super sad."

    They were able to track down her owners and garnered a deal to buy her freedom. "The good news is that we tracked down her owner and made a deal with him to buy her freedom at a heavily discounted price due to her medical issues," the GoFundMe continued.

    They were able to reach their goal, which is why we got this awe-inspiring video of her finally chain-free.
