Four candidates in race for the Arizona House in District 28

One Democrat and three Republicans are vying for the Arizona Legislative District 28 House seat on the 2024 Primary Election Ballot. The primary election takes place July 30. The general election is Nov. 5. This district has two seats in the House.

Barbara Fike

Barbara Fike is the lone Democrat seeking the seat.

She is a second-generation Arizonan who has lived here nearly her entire life. She is a retired middle and high school teacher, who currently teaches part-time at Glendale Community College.

According to her campaign website, some of Fike’s top issues are affordable housing, the state’s water supply and education.

She also states she has registered as a Republican, Independent and Democrat over the years.

David Livingston

Incumbent David Livingston has served in the House since 2023. He served in the chamber from 2013 to 2018 before serving in the Senate from 2019 to 2022.

He has served as chairman of a number of committees, including the Finance and Transportation Committees in the Senate, and both Appropriations and Finance, Insurance and Banking Committees in the House.

Livingston ran for state treasurer in 2022, but withdrew from the race before the primaries.

He has made his home in Arizona since 1983 and graduated from Arizona State University in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

He is a semi-retired financial adviser.

According to his website, Livington’s top issues are fiscal responsibility and border security.

Beverly Pingerelli

Incumbent Beverly Pingerelli has served in the House since 2021. She previously served on the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board. She has lived in Arizona for 18 years.

She received her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Wayne State University in Detroit and holds an American Society for Clinical Pathology Cytogenetics Certification for laboratory personnel.

She currently works full-time at Grand Canyon University as a science program coordinator. She has also worked full-time as a cytogenetics technologist at St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Molecular Medicine Laboratory, where she performed both genetic tests on cancer biopsies and tests for infectious diseases.

According to her website, some of Pingerelli’s top issues are economic and educational opportunity, immigration and election integrity.

Susan Black

Susan Black ran unsuccessfully for the House in 2022.

She is a real estate agent. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from the Arizona School of Real Estate and Business in 2004 and studied at the University of Central Missouri and Illinois Valley Community College.

She helped found Hope Church, a campus ministry at Arizona State University, serving as the president on the board of directors; the Christian Business Connection and Adams Traditional Academy, where she has served on the board of directors for five years.

According to her website, some of Black’s top issues are education, border security and the state budget.
