RALEIGH, N.C. — Tyeshia Hopper of Shelby took a chance on a $10 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million top prize.

Hopper bought her lucky 50X The Cash ticket from Eastside Kwik Stop on Lineberger Street in Shelby.

When Hopper arrived at lottery headquarters on May 30, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $429,003.

The 50X The Cash game debuted in February with six top prizes of $1 million. Three $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.

The state provided over $27 million to Cleveland County to build two new school auditoriums. For details on other ways Cleveland County benefits from lottery funds, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
