WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) was caught on a hot mic referencing an unverified claim made by President Joe Biden.

At a press conference Tuesday, Ernst could be heard saying, “Bottom line: never trust a man whose uncle was eaten by cannibals.”

During the press conference, Ernst leveled Biden for issues at the border and claimed Democratic voters in her life are switching their upcoming votes to former President Trump because of it.

The hot mic quip could be taken as a reference to an anecdote President Joe Biden told in April about how his uncle was an aviator whose plane went down during World War II in Papua New Guinea. Biden claimed his uncle’s body was never found and speculated about possible “cannibals” in the area.

Ernst, a staunch Trump supporter, continues to point to President Biden’s alleged political failures at a time when former President Trump has seen polls dip after 34 felony convictions in New York.
