    The first official day of summer has yet to arrive, but the summer festival season is off to a great start. Celebrate Cajun heritage, good eating, BBQ, beer, and Creole tomatoes this weekend.

    Cajun Heritage Festival - Larose - June 7, 8, 9

    307 East 5th Street

    Celebrating the colorful Cajun heritage of Lafourche Parish, the Cajun Heritage Festival features a decoy show, carving demonstrations, duck calling contests, a live auction, raffles, food, and vendors.

    Gheens Bon Mange' Festival - Gheens - June 7, 8, 9

    1783 Hwy. 654

    Bon Mange' means good eating. The Gheens Bon Mange' Festival offers lots of good food cooked on site and live music. In its 50th year, the festival will have live auctions between bands, a cornhole tournament, a craft show, a bounce house, a sweet shop, a Queen's presentation, and free parking.

    On the menu are:

    • Seafood Gumbo
    • Chicken & Sausage Gumbo
    • Fried Catfish
    • Poboys
    • White Beans & Rice
    • Jambalaya
    • Burgers
    • Nachos
    • Hot Dogs
    • Cracklins
    • And more

    Baked chicken and rice dressing dinners will be available on Sunday only. Admission is free.

    St. Landry BBQ Festival - Opelousas - June 7, 8, 9

    1939 West Landry Street

    The site of the Yambilee Festival is the setting for the 3-day St. Landry BBQ Festival. A fun-filled weekend for the entire family, the festival will offer a wide variety of delicious barbecue, a BBQ cookoff competition, music, arts & crafts, and much more.

    Admission to the festival is free, but there is a $10 parking fee.

    Thibodaux on Tap - Thibodaux - June 8

    West 2nd Street

    The second annual Thibodaux on Tap Beer Festival features samples of local brews, Cajun cuisine, and live music in Downtown Thibodaux. Hours are 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased online.

    You must be 21 years old and have a valid ID to enter.

    French Market Creole Tomato Festival - New Orleans - June 8 & 9

    French Market

    The 38th annual Creole Tomato Festival features live music in the French Market and in Dutch Alley, Creole tomato food booths, Creole tomatoes for sale, Creole tomato cooking demonstrations, and a second line to kick things off.
