MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man wanted on warrants out of DeSoto County was arrested in Shelby County after reporting his car as stolen following a high-speed pursuit.

On May 30, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop on a car for a traffic violation.

Reports say the car refused to stop and began driving on the side of the road, passing other vehicles and weaving in and out of traffic, almost striking multiple cars.

The chase continued with the suspect’s car reaching reported speeds of 105 mph.

DCSO says the deputy was able to read the registration of the vehicle and identify the driver as Brandon Gathings, who has reportedly fled from the deputy several times in the past.

As the pursuit continued, other deputies attempted to use spike strips to stop the suspect vehicle. Eventually, the deputy disregarded the pursuit due to “unsafe conditions.”

Approximately two hours later, Gathings attempted to report his vehicle stolen in Shelby County. Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies ran Gathings’ information through NCIC and found him to have several warrants out of DeSoto County for the offenses.

He was taken into custody by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and transported to 201 Poplar where he is awaiting extradition to Mississippi.
