Listen to Jason Smith of Fox Sports Radio’s The Jason Smith Show call out Angel Reese , Chennedy Carter , and the rest of the Caitlin Clark ‘haters’ for turning what should be the WNBA’s most proud moment into a ‘clown show’ of bizarre disdain for the league’s most popular player.
Check out the segment below as Smith mocks the WNBA for failing to embrace their cash cow and instead trying to literally beat her down and defile her in the media.
Angel Reese: "I'll take the bad guy role and continue to take that on and be that for my teammates. I know I'll go down in history, and I'll look back in 20 years and be like, 'Yeah, the reason why we're watching women's basketball is not just because of one person, it's because of me, too. I want y'all to realize that.. A lot of us have done so much for this game. There are so many great players in this league that have deserved this for a really, really long time, and luckily, it's coming now. Negative things have probably been said about me, but honestly, I'll take that because look where women's basketball is. People are talking about women's basketball like you never thought we would be talking about women's basketball. People are pulling up to games, we've got celebrities at the games, sold out arenas — just because of one single game [Iowa vs. LSU, 2023 National Championship].
Jason Smith: “Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark kind of hit it big together but Caitlin Clark had already been a household name past the rivalry with Angel Reese. Angel Reese has to understand that her popularity is because she did the ‘gimme a ring’ to Caitlin Clark before she won a National Championship. It was a great basketball moment and she has turned that moment into ‘I am a star’ and ‘I am a big celebrity.’ And she is, but to sit back and say ‘it’s not about one person, but it’s about ME’...? She says it’s ‘not about one person’, and then she says it’s about ‘ME’.
The desire that she has for Caitlin Clark’s spotlight is just so over the top. That quote right there is all you need to know about Angel Reese. She wants the smoke and now she’s gonna get it. She’s someone with a huge ego, it happens, she’s a really good player, she’s good for the game, but now she wants smoke? OK, she’s gonna get smoke...
YOU’RE NOT CAITLIN CLARK.
NOBODY in the league is Caitlin Clark.
If I was in PR for the WNBA I would tell the league ‘you need to stop looking like a clown show because right the WNBA, you guys are a clown. You hate your superstar, you’re rude to the media – you have to be able to handle success.' You don’t have the cache that that NBA, NFL, and Major League Baseball have where you can say this about someone and be rude to so-and-so. Nobody else in professional sports goes after their superstar the way you have open disdain for Caitlin Clark.
Before you tell me I’m ‘wrong’ I’ll show you Angel Reese celebrating the dirty hit, I’ll show you hugging her teammate, and I’ll show you Chennedy Carter afterwards say ‘What has she got besides a three-pointer??’
There’s open hate for Caitlin Clark. You don’t have to like her, but the world is wide enough for ALL of you. You can all be stars but Caitlin Clark is the biggest star, and if you’re jealous about that, I’m sorry. You’ve got to find a way to deal with that and have it not manifest itself in dirty fouls, and ways that make it look like the league is just unhappy to have her there.
Are you upset that she’s not the right person? That she shouldn’t be the one who brings you guys charter flights and that gets the league to this level? You think it should have been somebody else years ago? Well, it could have been, BUT IT WASN’T.
Understand that you can still carve out a great reputation and do whatever you want to, but do you really wanna be the one who sits there and is mad at Caitlin Clark?
Angel Reese, I’m sorry, but you’re not ‘just as big’ as Caitlin Clark. You aren’t the player she is, and nobody else is.
You don’t know how bad this looks for your sport when it just looks like you all wanna fight with her. You wanna make it look like you wanna fight with each other over who deserves what. This just looks like a clown show.”
