A recent Perquimans County High School graduate who plans to attend Meredith College is this year’s recipient of a scholarship established by two former student-athletes who graduated four decades ago from the school.

Elizabeth “Ellie” Ward, who graduated last Friday, is the 2024 recipient of the Dr. Larry A. Honeyblue and Bobby L. Tolson Student-Athlete Scholarship.

Now in its fourth year, Honeyblue and Tolson established the $1,000 scholarship through their 22H/T24 Foundation as a way to give back to the community they say has given them so much.

At Meredith, Ward plans to earn a degree in speech pathology. She said her career goal is to help individuals overcome speech challenges.

Prior to her graduation, Ward was dual enrolled at both Perquimans High School and College of The Albemarle. She was an honor student, a member of BETA, HOSA, FFA, the Fellowship of Christian

Athletes, and the SAVE Club. She also played volleyball and soccer for the Pirates and volunteers as a coach for the county recreation department.

In addition to the $1,000 Honeyblue/Tolson Scholarship, Ward received a $1,000 Foundation Scholarship and a $1,000 Janice Cole Mentoring Scholarship.
