A Dale City couple, wanted on felony child abuse charges following the death of their toddler son in 2023, turned themselves in to the police on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The case dates back to January 22, 2023, when emergency responders found the 19-month-old boy unresponsive at the family’s home on the 4300 block of Granby Road in Woodbridge. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the boy was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The mother of a Denver homeless man told the City Council Monday that city-sponsored services have failed her son. Barbara Hallick Yeomans made her remarks during public comment period of the City Council meeting. She said her son grapples with substance abuse and mental illness and repeatedly has been harassed by police. She said her son also suffered verbal abuse by a guard in the Denver County Jail. Yeomans said she heard the guard harassing her son over the phone.

About 80 people overtook Aurora’s City Council meeting Monday, causing the mayor to recess the meeting three times in an effort to bring about order. The council then agreed to extend public invited to be heard beyond the one-hour time limit. The speakers showed up to chide the City Council for not punishing the officer that shot and killed Kilyn Lewis. Lewis was a suspect in a crime which is why police approached him. Body camera footage released by the Aurora Police Department showed Lewis did not have a gun and repeatedly yelled “I don’t have nothing!” with his hands in the air. Despite this, officer Michael Dieck killed him with a single shot from his rifle. Lewis never had more than a cell phone in his hand, the video showed.

Tiffany Thompson began her mail carrier route as usual on Friday, June 21, not knowing this was the day she would save a life (maybe two) and be a hero. While delivering mail in the Texas area of Washington County, Thompson had to maneuver her vehicle around a car that was pulled off on the shoulder of the road and several that were parked along the driveway in order to deliver a package. She delivered the package and was making her way back when she noticed the driver of the car was inside was slumped over, Thompson stopped to check on the driver and make sure she was alright. Thompson could have driven on by and continued her postal rounds but chose to stop.
