At a Tuesday evening meeting the Wichita City Council approved a city-funded, neighborhood cleanup event. The $281 thousand dollar program will focus primarily on low-to-moderate-income neighborhoods, including South Broadway, Hilltop and Planeview which have been hot spots for illegal dumping.

City staff was asked if past clean-up events resulted in less dumping. City Manager Robert Layton said previous similar events resulted in temporary illegal dumping reduction. Layton said other strategies to deal with illegal dumping will be presented to the council later this year.

The council also approved a petition to amend the Chicken N Pickle Community Improvement District at 13th and Greenwich in east Wichita. The public hearing is now set for July 2.
