Humans have been searching for the fountain of youth since the beginning of time. Unfortunately, this has led to many snake oils and false promises being sold throughout the years. Even worse, some have been a waste of money and harmful to health.

Today, however, with modern research, scientists know more than ever. While we still have plenty to learn, we also thankfully have studies that suggest some things can help us age more gracefully.

See the top three this neuroscientist recommends in this video from May 26:

Neuroscientist Robert Love (@ robertwlove ) has some pretty good news. He reveals three simple supplements can help slow down and even reverse the signs of aging. Even better, they’re readily available and don’t cost a fortune.

Three Supplements To Slow Down and Reverse Signs of Aging

    1. N-Acetylcysteine . This powerful antioxidant has a wide range of extraordinary uses. In fact, doctors use it to detoxify the liver in cases of acetaminophen poisoning at the hospital. It has also been shown to be effective in clearing mucus from the respiratory system. My personal word of caution on this supplement is that it has a rather pungent odor. While this doesn’t cause any ill or lasting effects, it knocks you back the first time you smell it.

    2. Creatine. This substance isn’t just good for growing muscles; it is also suitable for brain health, Robert tells us. Studies have shown that I can help reduce age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia) that often leads to weakness, falls, and injuries. Preliminary evidence suggests that creatine has anti-inflammatory effects during periods of metabolic stress, like high-intensity exercise. While research is still limited, scientists say it does not negatively affect aging adults’ liver or kidney function markers.

    3. Cacao (undutched). Robert tells us this is high, and bioflavonoids benefit the entire body. This doesn’t just taste great. It’s also an incredible antioxidant. Its anti-inflammatory benefits are believed to be beneficial for the cardiovascular system, and this delectable powder helps positively influence insulin resistance and reduce risks of diabetes. Scientists also tell us that cacao protects nerves from inflammation and injury, protects skin from UV damage, and helps us feel full. It is also believed to improve cognitive function and mood. I know I always feel better after I’ve had a little bit of chocolate.

As with any supplement, some people may experience allergic reactions, side effects, or interactions with medications. That’s why it’s essential to consult with your physician before beginning any new diet or supplement regimen.

These easy-to-find and easy-to-incorporate supplements may not help us live forever, but they might give us better quality years while we’re here. They might even help us look our best, too.
