If you're still riding the wave of the beach-y coastal interior design vibes, or if you're looking to bring it into your summer decor, then this is the DIY for you. It's wildly simple to bring this airy and homey aesthetic into your space. It's a look that doesn't hurt your wallet!

Obviously the "coastal grandma" vibe has been popular for over a year at this point but online creators are still coming up with genius ideas for how to incorporate it into their homes. Despite being beach-focused, this look works for all seasons, not just the summer time.

Watch below to see just how easy it is to build your own side table for the ultimate beach house vibe.

TikTok creator Jenn Dempsey, also known online as @motherthyme , is a huge fan of the beach-y, neutral color palette, minimalist look and this DIY encompasses all of that. Plus, it's so cheap!

At this point, you shouldn't be surprised that Dollar Tree is the best place to go for home decor DIYs as, besides of course our number one IKEA, the Dollar Tree is the best place to get basic home items that are easily customizable.

Jenn has been on the lookout for a simple side table to add to her outdoor seating set up and since everything online was either too expensive or too big, she decided to just make her own. Off to the Dollar Tree she went!

How to Make a Coastal Grandma Table from Scratch

You only need a few basic items to get started on this DIY. Here's what Jenn picked up from her local Dollar Tree. Obviously you can customize this piece to perfectly match your own decor but this is what ended up working for her.

She grabbed two white wire baskets, a spool of thick nautical rope, a decorative plate, and some zip ties. The only tools she needed were hot glue and a pair of scissors.

First, Jenn hot glued the two wire baskets together end-to-end to give it that hourglass look. She used zip ties to hold the baskets together in the center but don't worry, they will be invisible.

Next, she took her rope and wound it around almost the entire length of the baskets starting at the bottom, leaving a few inches at the top of just bare wire. Coastal items love to use multiple materials, so this was the perfect plan.

Finally, she hot glued the decorative plate to the top. All done! While it won't be able to hold anything super heavy, it's the perfect decorative side table for an outdoor space.
