There are two types of travelers in this world: Those who unpack as soon as they check into their hotel rooms, and those who just make their peace with living out of a suitcase during their trip. There's nothing wrong with taking either path — it all really does just come down to personal preference. And for me, that means unpacking and organizing my stuff as soon as I get settled. Clothes go in the closet to avoid being wrinkled, toiletries go in the bathroom, and shoes are lined up near the door. I can enjoy my vacation so much more if my belongings are where they need to go!

If that sounds like you, too, you might want to think twice about the way you unpack when you're traveling, thanks to this TikTok video... particularly if you always make use of the dressers that are found in hotel rooms.

Do you completely unpack clothes into dressers?

♬ original sound - Dr. Jason Singh

On Tuesday, June 4, Dr. Jason Singh took to TikTok to share an important PSA for anyone using hotel room dressers, and basically, that message is that we all need to stop.

As he points out in the video, dressers that are made of wood and have crevices and joints in them can put you at risk of bringing bed bugs home with you, as they can hide in the dark spaces and latch onto your clothes after you put them away. No thanks!

There's another reason not to use them: Dr. Singh mentioned that the dressers probably aren't cleaned very often, either.

Now that I think about it... the hotel dresser is actually the last place I want to keep my clothes. Yuck!

    Keeping Clothes Organized While Traveling

If you, like me, have resolved to stop using hotel room dressers from now on but still need to be organized during your stay (same) there are a few things you can do without putting your clothes at risk.

The easiest solution is obviously to hang everything in the closet, though hangers aren't always in huge supply.

You can also bring hanging storage with you, like this closet organizer, which will give you more room and a safe place to put folded clothing while traveling.

Using packing cubes while gathering what you want to bring can help, too, and separate out each type of clothing in each cube, like pajamas, tops, bottoms, underwear, etc. Then, if you do have to live out of your suitcase, you know which packing cube to reach for depending on what you need. No rifling!

And of course, stay on top of the bed bug situation by thoroughly inspecting your room as soon as you arrive — including the dressers. Future you will thank you!
