WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Wednesday marked day three of Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial in Delaware.

First lady Dr. Jill Biden was there once again to support Hunter. Political Science Professor Todd Belt says her attendance sends a message.

“What it does signal is the same thing that Joe Biden has been saying time and time again, which is he’s not going to comment on it, other than the fact that he loves his son and supports him,” Belt said.

Some of the more personal testimony came from Hunter Biden’s ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle.

She told prosecutors about the various times she found drugs and paraphernalia in the house and Hunter Biden’s car.

Hunter’s attorney asked Buhle if she ever saw Hunter using drugs, to which she said, “No.”

Prosecutors are hoping to show the depths of his drug problem, which they say was still going on when he filled out a gun application.

“If you’re on crack, you can’t purchase a firearm and you can’t lie on the application. And that was what was going on there,” Sen. Eric Schmitt, (R-Mo.) said.

Sen. Schmitt says Hunter knowingly broke the law and calls this a slam dunk case.

“As a former prosecutor and A.G., these gun cases are pretty open and shut,” Schmitt said.

In-person support for Hunter will now be smaller with the first lady headed to France for D-Day celebrations with the president.
