Construction of new Sheetz underway in Kanawha City

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Construction of the newest Sheetz in Kanawha County is coming along nicely!

WOWK 13 News stopped by the Kanawha City location Wednesday for a look at the progress, and it’s safe to say the MacCorkle Avenue road project isn’t stopping crews from getting the popular gas station finished.

The Sheetz is going up where the old Hooters restaurant and Captain D’s once stood. It’s expected to be opened by August.

Signs for the new gas station first went up in February, and demolition of the old businesses was announced.

Before the Hooters was torn down by Rodney Loftis of Rodney Loftis & Son Contracting, locals planned a candlelit vigil to say goodbye to the old building. The event ended up doubling as a good cause – the organizers turned it into a fundraiser to help a family whose daughter travel to California for treatment of a rare disease.
