    ‘No foul play suspected’: Woman serving life sentence for 90s murder conviction dies in prison, NCDAC says

    POLKTON, NC ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A woman incarcerated at Anson Correction Institution lost her life Tuesday, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC).

    Eva McNair, 65, was found unresponsive in her cell on June 4. Officials did not release the circumstances surrounding McNair’s death but did say that no foul play was suspected.

    Law enforcement and the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have been notified.

    In October 1991, McNair was sentenced to life in prison following a conviction of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

    The previous July, the then-31-year-old McNair and then-31-year-old Raymond Smith were accused of the murder of Virginia woman Ina Swain after she was found dead at the Raleigh mobile home park, the Greensboro News & Record reported at the time .

    Funeral plans for Eva McNair have yet to be announced.
