Teyana Taylor, Taraji P. Henson, and Sherri Shepherd To Star In Tyler Perry Film ‘Straw’

Tyler Perry called on Teyana Taylor, Taraji P. Henson, and Sherri Shepherd to bring his upcoming project to life. Titled Straw and directed and written by the filmmaker, the movie brings the women to Netflix for a tense drama, per Variety.

According to the outlet, the movie shares the story of a single mother who faces a series of unfortunate events that lead her down an unexpected path. The logline details, “She becomes entangled in a situation she never imagined and finds herself at the center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence.”

Alongside the leading ladies, Straw also features Glynn Turman, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, and Mike Merrill, Perry is also producing with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland.

Straw is one of several projects from the Madea franchise creator and the streaming platform as part of a creative partnership through a multi-year, first-look deal inked in 2023. At Netflix, Perry houses A Fall From Grace, A Madea Homecoming, and A Jazzman’s Blues as well as the pending films Six Triple Eight and the latest release Mea Culpa .

Additionally, the 54-year-old is working on the drama series Beauty In Black , set for 16 hour-long episodes. The series “follows two women leading very different lives.”

Also at Netflix, Perry and DeVon Franklin have locked in a multi-year, multi-picture first-look deal to create faith-based entertainment for the platform, not impacting the aforementioned deal.

“I’m so excited to be working with DeVon on this and future projects,” explained the media mogul when the news was shared. “I think in this polarizing world, and at a time where the world seems to be growing colder every day, we both share the common goal of wanting to spread some good. And there’s no better place than Netflix.”
