The Least Visited State Park in Virginia is also the most Peaceful

Nestled within almost every corner of the Old Dominion State is a beautiful state park. Virginia is home to some of the very best in the country but in this article, we'll be highlighting one that is greatly underappreciated.

If you've never been to False Cape State Park, you are not alone. Located on the Currituck Banks Peninsula, between the Back Bay of the Currituck Sound and the Atlantic Ocean, this park is so secluded it receives only a few thousand visitors a year.

The park is full of beauty and contains seagrass-covered sand dunes and an abundance of wildlife not found at our other state parks, it truly is a Virginia gem.

There is no public vehicular access so if you'd like to visit, you'll have to arrive via tram transportation from the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge which is available from April 1st through October 31st.

Once you're here, you can enjoy guided kayak trips, primitive camping, hiking, and biking trails, and six miles of untouched Atlantic Ocean beach.

It is important to keep in mind that the park has limited facilities and is not recommended for those who are unaccustomed to strenuous activity. There are however restrooms, a gift shop, and a visitor center available here.
