Hot Mic Catches Biden Talking About His ‘Advance Team’ — Which For Some Reason Republicans Jump On

A hot mic captured President Joe Biden making a comment about his “advance team” — which an official Republican account for some reason jumped to post.

Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and others spoke at an event commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France that was attended by around 200 surviving veterans of that invasion — men who turned the tide of World War II against Adolf Hitler’s Axis powers.

The Republican Party’s official RNC Research X/Twitter account marked the occasion by posting clips attacking the president or trying to create negative impressions about him during the events.

The account went viral Thursday morning by posting a misleading clip that many prominent Republicans claimed showed the president was “out of it” or trying to “sit in an imaginary chair.”

But the actual video of the event shows that in that same clip, milliseconds later, the president did sit in a very real chair after pausing a few seconds to wait for Secretary Austin’s introduction to be completed.

A few hours later, President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden were greeted by French President Emmanuel Macron and French First Lady Brigitte Macron for a ceremony at Omaha Beach.

The same RNC account posted a short clip with the caption “BIDEN: ‘My advance team said I gotta be the first one to leave'”:

It is unclear what inference was meant to be drawn — but the full context of the clip makes clear the reason President Biden brought it up to Macron.

The two men can be heard discussing the names of some of the 20 world leaders attending the event, and the president remarks on the likely crush that will occur when the event concludes:

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: I understand Zelenskyy is here.

PRESIDENT EMMANUEL MACRON: Yes. Zelenskyy, Scholz, … Trudeau

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: (inaudible) I have to leave right away because I’ll hold people up. My advance team said I’ve got to leave, got to be the first one to leave because I’ll hold people up.
