A newlywed whose brother and mother "ruined" her wedding day by screaming at her childhood friend during the reception has taken to the internet to share her story.

The woman said that she hadn't seen the friend in nearly a decade, so was excited to share her special day with her. However, her brother had other ideas.

Taking to Reddit, she wrote: "Our wedding plans went extremely smoothly , and things were planned to be more like a party than a wedding itself. I was so pumped and wanted to share it with as many people as possible so I invited my primary school best friend, whom I hadn't seen in around eight years, and was thrilled when she accepted the invite.

"Day of the wedding and she came a little early to help me get ready and we decided to chill a bit beforehand. The second my younger brother saw her he immediately told her he used to have a crush on her and that he'd like to be her date for the day.

"She said no. He tried to push the issue but I told him to get over it and he dropped it, sulking, but left it alone... so I thought.

"Most of the day went by without too much drama and the ceremony was wrapped up around lunchtime so we were all just having a good time with the intention of hanging out and playing games until late. Halfway through a game my old friend approached me and said she was probably going to go home because my brother had once again approached her about a date."

The friend told the bride's brother that she had a boyfriend, but he apparently threatened "some pretty harsh things", putting her in an extremly uncomfortable position.

The bride spoke to him once more and told him to leave if he kept pressing the issue. Everyone chose to stay and things calmed down again. But, not for long.

"We opened the bar and all I can hear is a screaming match; my old friend and my brother AND my mother are all standing in the next room in clear sight of the rest of the guests," the woman wrote.

"She's calling them unhinged and all sorts of things under the sun. Obviously my wife and I went to investigate and it turns out my brother (who is a grown man) had gone to tell my mother on my friend like a child! And my mother was now with my brother chastising her and saying they hope she catches diseases and gets hurt."

The newlyweds broke up the fight and sent the group home, however they said the damage was done. To add to it, they slept over at the friend's house because she was afraid of the brother showing up there.

"My wife and I spent our first night as a married couple sleeping on her couch because she was petrified," the bride said.

"This was almost two weeks ago and I haven't spoken to my brother or mother since and my wife and I didn't even get the photos we wanted with the sunset."

The bride has gotten a lot of support from sympathetic Reddit users. Some even sent links for instructions on how to file a restraining order.

One person wrote: "That is absolutely insane! What a disgusting thing to do to someone, and at his own sister’s wedding!"

Another said: "The brother is awful. It is the mother who is worse: on their child's special day they support their other child hitting on someone who clearly said no and ruined the wedding?"

The poster was thankful for the support. She concluded: "I'd not be shocked if I'm honest. I'd say no woman is safe where he is concerned. I think I'll help her get that restraining order sorted out."
