Over the last few months, rumors have been swirling about Dame Dash selling his shares of Roc-A-Fella Records. It looks like the co-founder is serious about the sale, and he even publicly declared who he wants the purchaser to be.

On Thursday (June 6), the executive beckoned Kendrick Lamar by writing on his Instagram feed, “@kendricklamar my 3rd is for sale if you want to buy it. Any serious offers [arrow emoji] DM.”

Attached to the caption was a screenshot of a tweet K. Dot posted on June 5, 2010. In the post, the “Poetic Justice” rapper compared JAY-Z’s pivotal project to Nas’ magnum opus, crowning the former as his personal choice. “I’m sorry, Reasonable doubt is better than illmatic… #youcanunfollowmenow,” Kendrick wrote at the time.

Although Jay, Dame, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke’s infamous Roc fallout is well-documented, the trio was still together on paper for the long years to come. In February 2024, Roc-A-Fella Inc. was ordered to satisfy an $823K judgment from movie producer Josh Webber and Muddy Waters Films. This led to a New York judge ruling that Roc-A-Fella Inc. must deliver Dash’s shares of the company to the US Marshals.

The I Am Dame Dash creator has had a string of financially unfavorable situations since parting ways with his old business partners. Per Rolling S tone, in 2019, he was “arrested for failing to pay more than $400,000 in child support to his ex-wife Rachel Roy. Last November, on the The CEO Show with Dr. Taje Moreno he called himself a ‘proud broke,’ noting that he couldn’t afford annual child support payments of $300K to $400K to Roy.”

Speaking of Jay and Dame’s relationship, the latter has stayed in headlines for his comments about the former. Most recently, he said during a conversation on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion show that Hova was trying to be like him, specifically on “Big Pimpin.'” “Everything Jay said he was pretending to be me, yes,” Dash said. “Who’s the CEO, who was big pimping? Who was doing all those things? It was me.”
