Triplet Baby Has to Wait His Turn for Mom's Milk and He's Devastated

Everybody knows that breastfeeding is beneficial for babies...but it can also be incredibly challenging. And if nursing one baby is tough, how much harder is it to breastfeed twins — or even triplets? After all, there's a limit to how many infants a mom can physically feed at once!

In one recent video, a baby boy is going through a range of very intense emotions (and you really can't blame him for being upset!). Apparently, the infant is a triplet, and he's very hungry...but mom is breastfeeding his brothers first. What could be worse?!

"Sorry buddy...mommy only has two!" wrote Rachel Flom . Unfortunately, there's not much mom can do here! Baby #3 will just have to wait his turn (and maybe next time, he'll get to go first). One thing's for sure: This mother deserves lots of credit for breastfeeding triplets no matter what.

Tips for Breastfeeding Twins or Triplets

While it's true that breastfeeding multiples can definitely be more challenging, it is possible — even if you have to supplement, according to Today's Parent. Of course, you'll have to figure out a few tricks to make mealtime more manageable.

In the beginning, you might only be able to nurse one baby at a time . So what should you do with the others while the first is eating? Lactation consultant (and mother of two sets of twins) Jo-Anne Elder recommends staying low to the ground.

"Put a blanket on the floor, put the baby or babies you’re not feeding on the blanket , and sit with your back against the couch to nurse. Then the other baby can roll around and you’re not worried he’s going to fall .”

Before you start trying to breastfeed two babies at once, make sure at least one of the babies is latching on successfully and can maintain the latch without you having to do much.

"Then you can latch that baby on and let her go to it while you position and help the other one. Until they have that level of skill, it’s probably better to nurse one at a time." Nursing pillows (or even bed pillows) can help to keep both babies in position.

Don't worry too much about getting your babies into a nursing routine at first, as "feeding on cue is important to establish a good milk supply." Mothers of multiples often fall into a natural breastfeeding rhythm at around six weeks or so.

And remember, if there's someone around who can help you, don't be afraid to ask for assistance! You only have two hands, after all...and just two of another essential body part!
