    This Caprese Hot Dogs Recipe Puts an Italian Spin on a Summer Classic

    Hot dogs are such a classic barbecue food, and while we love ’em, sometimes we get a little bored with the same ol’ toppings. So why not switch things up for your next grill session with this Italian-inspired Caprese hot dogs recipe?

    We nestled juicy hot dogs in toasted hoagie buns and added fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and capers. This vibrant topping is reminiscent of the beloved Italian Caprese salad. You can also add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar for a touch of sweetness and acidity. Make this for your next family barbecue or a casual weekend lunch and it will surely impress. Yes, even your Italian friends.

    • 1 pint yellow and/or red cherry tomatoes
    • 1 (8 oz.) ball fresh mozzarella
    • 2 Tbs. olive oil
    • 1 Tbs. red wine vinegar
    • 1/4 tsp. pepper
    • 1/8 tsp. salt
    • 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
    • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
    • 1 Tbs. drained capers
    • 8 soft hoagie rolls, split
    • 2 cloves garlic, halved
    • 8 hot dogs

    Instructions

    • Prepare grill for medium-high direct-heat cooking. Quarter tomatoes. Cut mozzarella into 1/2” pieces. In bowl, combine oil, vinegar, pepper and salt. Add tomatoes, mozzarella, red onion, basil and capers; toss until combined.

    • Grill rolls, cut side down, until lightly toasted, about 1 min. Remove; rub cut side of bread with garlic. Grill hot dogs, rotating occasionally, until cooked through, 5–7 min. Place hot dogs in rolls; top with tomato-mozzarella salad.
